Arthroscopic Surgery

Learn How We Can Help You via Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure that Maryland Orthopedic Institute uses to see, diagnose, and treat problems inside of a joint. Dr. Christopher Farrell frequently performs knee arthroscopy.

Pencil-sized instruments with small lens and lighting systems are inserted into a small incision, allowing our surgeon to see the inside of a joint. The camera attached to the arthroscope displays an image of the joint on a monitor. By viewing the joint, Dr. Farrell can make a decision on what type of injury you have, as well as what type of procedure or surgery is necessary.

Arthroscopy is an outpatient procedure and most patients are home within several hours of surgery. Since it's minimally invasive, patients generally experience fewer problems and a more rapid recovery than with open surgery, making it a valuable diagnostic and treatment tool.
